In January there was reason to cheer when Australia’s Alex de Minaur broke into the Top 10. At the time, the Sydney player became the first Aussie since Lleyton Hewitt in 2006 to hold a Top-10 spot.
The event continues this week for this man they call the Demon. The 25-year-old rises to number 7 in the rankings after taking the title in ‘s-Hertogenbosch on Sunday (his 9th ATP title, and second of 2024).
De Minaur, who is 33-11 this season, is sixth in the ATP’s Race to Turin.
De Minaur wasn’t the only one to rise this week in the ATP rankings.
On the strength of his title in Stuttgart, Jack Draper made his first Top-30 on Monday (+10) and is the top-ranked Brit for the first time. The 22-year-old southpaw is the youngest man to do so since Andy Murray in 2009.
Draper knocked out Matteo Berrettini in the Stuttgart final on Sunday to become the eighth player to win for the first time on the ATP Tour this season.
Berrettini himself rises 30 places to No.65, on the strength of his performance in Stuttgart.
Others who made big pigeons were Luciano Darderi of Italy, who won the Perugia challenger title and jumped from 41 to 34, and Perugia runner-up Sumit Nagal, who jumped from No.77 to 71. Both of these players are sitting in the top job positions this week.
France’s Hugo Gaston jumped 13 places after winning the title in Lyon.
