Abraham Ancer leads LIV Golf Nashville after a first round 64

COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. — Abraham Ancer shot a bogey-free 7-under 64 on Friday to lead the first round of LIV Golf Nashville, with Bryson DeChambeau three shots back on his celebratory tour that began with his second US Open. victory.

Ancer is looking for his second win in six games after winning in Hong Kong in the playoffs in March. Tyrrell Hatton was a stroke back at The Grove, a course designed by LIV Commissioner of Golf Greg Norman that opened in 2012.

Ancer won the 2021 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational in Memphis for his only PGA Tour title. The 33-year-old former Oklahoma standout was born and raised in Texas and holds dual US-Mexican citizenship.

John Catlin was 66 years old. DeChambeau shot a 67, tied with Eugenio Chacarra, Sebastian Munoz and Sam Horsfield.

Ancer opened with a birdie on his first hole on the par-4 18th. He birdied the next four before racking up six birdies in the next 11 holes, including four of five to take the lead.

DeChambeau booked two bogeys with four straight birdies and a par. The two-time US Open champion rolled in a birdie putt on the party hole on the 3rd 15th and put his index finger to his ear to encourage fans to get louder.

When the ball he tried to throw reached the grandstands, DeChambeau ran around the bunkeau to catch it and lift it to a fan before running to the next hole.

“I feel like a zombie a little bit, but luckily the crowd gives me a lot of energy. … Guys, they just push me forward,” DeChambeau said. “I can’t thank them enough. It’s great to see the support out there.”
