Guido Migliozzi wins the KLM Open in a three-man qualifying tournament
AMSTERDAM — Italy’s Guido Migliozzi holed a 7-foot birdie putt on the par-5 18th and then bogeyed it twice in extra holes to win the KLM Open in the three-man final on Sunday.
Migliozzi carded his final two holes in 1-under 70, joining Sweden’s Marcus Kinhult and England’s Joe Dean, who posted 68s, in the playoff.
All three players birdied the 18th hole on the first playoff hole, but the Italian was the only one to manage a birdie on the second extra hole, two feet from about 60 meters for his first win on the European Tour in almost two years.
He now has four European touring cars.
Migliozzi and Dean secured two spots available for The Open next month at Royal Troon through the Open Qualifying Series. Dean received an exemption through Kinhult based on the world’s best.
Dean shot 30 on the back 9 of the International and was the first to post an 11-under 273. Kinhult made birdies on the 16th and 17th holes to get to 11 under, but found a spot just under right on the green. He blasted to just 55 feet and had to make a 6-foot par to catch Dean.
Denmark’s Rasmus Hojgaard needed an eagle one last time to join the playoff, but missed from just over 50 feet and closed with a 70 to tie for fourth with France’s Andrea Pavan (65).
Finland’s Mikko Korhonen, the 54-hole leader, shot 75 and tied for eighth.
