Paul becomes American No. 1, Mover of the Week

The grass court swing continued on the ATP Tour at the cinch Championships and Terra Wortmann Open, where Tommy Paul and Jannik Sinner lifted the trophies respectively. ATPtour.com looks at the movers in the PIF ATP Rankings as of Monday, June 24.

No. 12 Tommy Paul, +1 (Joint Career High)

The 27-year-old became the US No. 1 for the first time after claiming his third tour-level title in London. Paul, who defeated Lorenzo Musetti in the final, dropped one set en route to the title. With his run, he passed Taylor Fritz as America’s No. 1.

“It is an honor to be No. 1 American, but we both have big goals and want to be in the Top 10. [of the] ranks,” said Paul when asked about climbing to No. 1 with Fritz. “That’s where we both want to be.”

No. 7 Hubert Hurkacz, +2 (Career High)

The Pole rose to No. 7 in the PIF ATP Rankings after reaching the final of the ATP 500 event in Halle. Hurkacz took down Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals for his fifth Top 10 win on grass, but was unable to defeat the World No. 1 Sinner in the title game.

No. 33 Zhang Zhizhen, +9 (Career High)

The Chinese star jumped nine times after advancing to the first semi-final of the season in Halle. Zhang defeated Top 5 star Daniil Medvedev in the second round in Germany.

No. 75 Rinky Hijikata, +23

The 23-year-old moved up 23 places following his best result of the season at Queen’s Club. The Australian advanced to the quarter-finals at the ATP 500. Earlier this year, Hijikata reached the last eight at the ATP 250 events in Brisbane and Delray Beach.

No. 82 David Goffin, +27

The Belgian is back in the Top 100 after his success on the ATP Challenger Tour. The 33-year-old defeated Frenchman Harold Mayot to win the title on grass in Ilkley.
