MHI Invests in e-Zinc to Develop Long-Term Energy Storage in Zinc Metal By Filaka.com
TOKYO, Jun 28, 2024 – (JCN Newswire) – – Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) announced today that it has invested in e-Zinc, Inc. (Zinc) is a long-term energy storage technology startup headquartered in Toronto, Canada. The investment was made through Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, Inc. (MHIA), joining a consortium of investors including Evok Innovations, Toyota (NYSE:) Ventures, Eni Next and others.
Using its proprietary technology, Zinc develops zinc-air batteries that can provide long-term power at low cost. Zinc-air batteries are expected to offer advantages such as less self-discharge, less degradation with repeated use, higher safety, and easier recycling compared to conventional lithium batteries. They also feature a higher energy density than lead-acid batteries.

This investment will help accelerate e-Zinc’s demonstration development and establishment of a commercial manufacturing base for this low-cost, flexible, and long-term energy storage solution. Moving forward, MHI will continue to develop and diversify its portfolio of solutions, providing its customers with additional carbon neutralization technologies to achieve net zero goals.
