The dark and dark gameplay takes players through dungeons full of loot and gruesome encounters. And as fun as a solid PvPvE treasure hunter is, it’s one of the hardest indie games out there. There are many reasons why (high-kill encounters, traps, other players), but the most prominent is that you are not given a lesson on how to escape the dungeons.

All Black and Black Output Points
Each map has mini-maps (except Mount Frost) that are randomly selected when you load the game. These share the same aesthetic but have outlets in different locations.
Extraction points in Black and Dark are found during the game. They are as follows:
- A rope – A single player escape that leaves you vulnerable to attack.
- The stairs – single player outputs indicated by green flashlights (turn off when used).
- Elevators – lever-activated releases that can carry multiple players.
- Rafts – wooden rafts around the flooded room before leaving the 3 minute mark.
- The portal – short three-sided stone pillars with blue markings. Activating one side costs a portal.
Black and White Releases vary from simple lifts to rafts and ropes leading to the top. The most common are the torch-lit stairs that pop out of the map. Here is each Black and Dark map, and where to find each type of exit.
The Goblin Caves
This series of caves is where bloodthirsty goblins have made their temporary home. Travelers should be aware of spiders, skeletons and traps when entering this underground area.
Goblin Caves has three mini-maps. The first three have 3 × 3 rooms and the fourth is a large complex of 5 × 5.

Snow Mountain
Bitter cold, white wolves and giant berserkers stalk these icy caves. If you are not killed by goblins or falling stalactites, a winged denizen awaits in its lowest chamber.
Although this map is moderately difficult for new players, it features many Portal exits, magical pillars that can take out your entire party. But it will be a race to see which teams use it first.
Ruins of the Forgotten Castle
Abandoned stone halls of unclaimed loot tempt travelers from far and wide. But this fallen castle holds a secret darker than its dimly lit halls.
This is the biggest map in Dark and Darker with six 5×5 maps. In addition, Ruins of Forgotten Castle 4-6 have the same variety of 4×4 “quad” games for solo and duo.
