Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis PPV Numbers: Good, But Not Worthy of the Throne

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis drew between 325,000 and 350,000 pay-per-view buys for his fight with Frank Martin on June 15 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Those numbers are good, considering that Tank’s opponent, ‘The Ghost’ Martin (18-1, 12 KOs), is not a well-known fighter among the sport’s casual fans.

The purchase is the development of the star Tank Davis, but not close to the 1.2 million numbers of the fight of Ryan Garcia in April 2023. So, he wasn’t very helpful to Canelo in bringing in 500K buys on May 4. Canelo did that on his own. Canelo is still the most marketable fighter in the sport, and that won’t change unless Tank Davis makes a surge in popularity. The only way he can do that is to improve the quality of his opposition.

The Importance of PPV Numbers in Boxing

PPV numbers account for the star power of fighters. They measure a fighter’s sales, which shows how well they are making money from their fights. Tank’s PPV buy for Martin was great, but it couldn’t compare to Canelo’s 500K.
