Joakim Johansson has been promoted to President, Nordics at Universal Music Central Europe
Universal Music Group has announced that Joakim Johansson has been promoted to President, Nordics at Universal Music Central Europe.
Johansson will continue in his role as Managing Director of Universal Music Swedenbut now it will also deal with UMG’s work in Denmark, Finland, Norway and the Baltic regions, UMG said in a statement on Thursday (June 27).
He will continue to report to Frank BriegmannChairman and CEO of World Music in Central Europe again Deutsche Grammophon.
Reporting directly to Johansson will be Casper BengtsonMD of Music by Universal Denmark; Kimmo ValtanenMD of World Music in Finland; again Bjørn RogstadMD of Universal Norway Music.
UMG said the appointment is part of Briegmann’s strategy to strengthen intellectual cooperation between UMG’s Northern European divisions, and beyond.

Johansson joined UMG as General Manager of Universal Music Sweden in 2013, and was promoted to Managing Director six years later.
During his time at UMG, he “led the company to regain its position as the market leader in Sweden, achieving incredible success domestically and internationally with artists such as Avicii, Tove Lo, Loreen and the critically acclaimed ABBA Voyage release, among many. others,” said UMG.

Johansson’s promotion comes after several high-profile appointments in Universal’s international divisions last year, including Alfredo Delgadilloappointment as President and CEO of World Music of Mexico.
And last year, UMG was named Timothy Xu Chairman and CEO of International Music Greater Chinaagain Gary Chan Managing Director of International Music from Hong Kongwhile William Hsieh was named Managing Director of World Music from Taiwan.
