Keyshawn Davis Looking Back at Madueno, Looking for Tank Davis Next

Keyshawn Davis is talking crazy, saying he’ll “knock out” Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis if he lays hands on him. Davis (10-0, 7 KOs) says he wants the next title shot against Tank for his WBA lightweight belt and that the “little” bleep can’t “touch me.”

The mention of Tank Davis could be Keyshawn’s attempt to gain attention in his fight with Miguel Madueno, who is not on the fans’ radar.

Ideally, Keyshawn should face better opposition because he won’t need to talk about Tank to get attention. Top Rank isn’t ready to match him with anyone of note after his struggles against Nahir Albright.

#3 IBF, #3 WBC, and #3 WBO Keyshawn must win his undercard fight against Miguel Madueno (31-2, 28 KOs) this Saturday, July 6, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

The Madueno Test

If Top Rank can work their magic and sprinkle some pixie dust on Keyshawn’s head to give him an untapped talent, he might have a shot at beating Tank Davis. At the moment, Keyshawn is still a mortal and could fall apart on Saturday under Madueno’s heavy shot.

There is a real chance that Madueno will finish what Nahir Albright started by hurting and knocking Keyshawn out on Saturday. Top Rank is giving Davis a test by putting him with this slugger, hoping he can pass, but they’re not sure.

Bob Arum’s company is already stacked at lightweight with Abdullah Mason, Vasily Lomachenko, and Raymond Muratalla, so it’s not a big loss if Keyshawn doesn’t come out. Shakur Stevenson may stay with Top Rank, and he may stay in his WBC lightweight title for years.

“I would prefer Tank Davis, the top guy. I’ll go to the top boy. If I had to choose, I would choose Tank Davis,” said Keyshawn Davis on Fight Hub TV about who he would like to fight if he had to choose.

“I’m going to take his short **,” Keyshawn said of Tank. “Hats off to the Tank. He is a great warrior. Everyone knows that you have strength, skills, ability and patience, but I know what I am.”

It doesn’t look like Keyshawn will ever get a chance to fight Tank Davis because he’s across the pond, and besides, he’s growing fast in the 135-lb division.

Davis should focus on his previous plan to fight WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk because that is the fight Top Rank has a better chance of taking.

These four would be the perfect way for Top Rank to give Keyshawn a test and, at the same time, allow him to do an extra season. If he hopes to compete against Tank Davis one of these days, he will improve his game by fighting these four.

“That short one [guy] he can’t touch me, and I come with that thing he comes with, and he knows that. His coach is Kenny [Ellis] you know. He has a lot to say. He said go and fight the Cuban guy [Andy Cruz]. No, I want to fight Tank. Stop talking about other people when I’m talking about your hero.”

At this point in the interview, Keyshawn got worked up when he mentioned Andy Cruz’s name. He’s the same guy who beat Keyshawn four times in class, and it sounds like he’s still haunted by the memories of what happened.

“What are you talking about? Don’t play with me. You know I’m coming. Tank, if you want to fight, send me a contract. You, Tank, you know,” said Keyshawn.
