WBC/WBO junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora is looking forward to his fight with Errol Spence. They don’t have a date yet, but Fundora (21-1-1, 13 KOs) expects it to happen in October in Texas.
The Biggest Fight of Fundira’s Career
Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) will be the biggest name Fundora, 26, has fought in eight years of his career. This could end Spence’s career, as he has told his fans it could be his last.
Errol lost to Terence Crawford by knockout in the ninth round last year in July, and it could be a sign that it’s time to hang up on them if he loses to Fundora. This is an uphill battle for Spence, 34, who is coming off a year and a half layoff.
Ideally, he should take a tune-up before facing a young fighter in a new weight class, but Spence has never been interested in taking warm-up fights.
6’6″ ‘Towering Inferno’ Fundora is coming off a twelve-round split decision against WBO junior middleweight champion Tim Tsyu on March 30. Now, he wants to add Spence’s name to his resume.
A Texas Fight Is Possible
“I hope so. Nothing is set, but later in October. They told me that day, so it will be good in Texas,” said Sebastian Fundora in Little Giant Boxing about his title defense against Errol Spence Jr.
The battleground should help Spence, who grew up in Texas. He will have a great crowd of supporters cheering him on. He’ll need all the support he can get to stand a chance of winning Fundora.
“I am very happy. “I wanted that fight two years ago when he and Crawford were busy finishing the fight,” said Fundora. “Now, I’ve got it, and it’s my turn. It sounds good. You saw me and my sister. Now, we are both champions. So, it’s been a good trip.
“It’s just a job. You know you are busy with your work. Some people change their words. “I’m changing my mindset, I’m putting it in the ring,” said Fundora about how he went from being a nice guy outside the ring to a fierce competitor inside it.
Fundora seems like a villain outside of the ring, and it’s hard to believe how he turns into a fierce fighter in his fights.
“Who knows what’s on his mind? I hope he is healthy and ready when we enter the ring,” Fundora said in response to being told that Spence said this might be his last fight.
“We will see what happens. Belts are stretched now. It’s like an Avengers movie,” said Fundora when asked if he wishes to become the undisputed champion at the age of 154.
“We have two top names, Spence and Crawford, in the weight class. It sounds good. Hard work. We weren’t getting much in those big fights, but now we are. So, belts mean that, and I’m glad to have them.
“Dream fights are happening now with Errol Spence and Crawford hopefully next,” Fundora said.
