TI Qualifiers Meta Highlights — CN and NA – DOTABUFF
I got to watch (even take out) some of the international titles and there are so many new ideas to explore. Some of them seemed to depend more on good team playing and high levels of communication, while others could easily be used in pubs. Today we will look at the last group
Low skill vision and coordination requirements. 0-3-2-0 Witch Doctor is a great threat in mid-stage and a great defender for team fights. Combining good right click damage with great AoE damage and sustain power you get one of the best support nannies in the game who can 1v2 from minute zero, creating a free lane to carry.
Even if he dies, there is Gris-Gris, which will allow him to continue the wisdom of the net and many other heroes. That means he gets to play aggressively, even though he tries to be smart about it. There’s crafting and there’s food and the best scenario is a 1v1 trade, where the second enemy hero in lane has to constantly choose between keeping a hit, or committing to attacking you.
Later this Sorcerer transitions into a very old hero with decent, if unreliable control and great damage from Death Ward. Make sure you understand when you should stop trying to play the front line alongside an illegal. Voodoo Festeration provides a decent amount of support, but doesn’t “tank” past ~12 minutes.
This new feature was met with a lot of skepticism from high-level players. Losing the ability to deal damage while focused seems like a bad idea for a hero who survives the late game by being healed by random quill sprays. It turns out, players just need time to adjust and reassess how to use this character in the best possible way.
The big change is that the Viscous Nasal Goo has to be removed a second time. The idea of Snot Rocket is not to continuously pressure the enemy into attacking you, it uses Goo through passive procs. The idea is to be proactive and aggressive, get on top of key targets and take down their armor by 27.
It works wonders in high tempo drafts and the biggest success we’ve seen with this Bristleback was when it was played as a carrier and took on a tanky Vanguard going into Aghanim’s Build. The game ended in less than 30 minutes and the enemy killing life really couldn’t fight Bristleback during the entire game, even if the enemy was facing him.
We’ve talked about this concept before, as the idea is very simple: by increasing the Power on Dark Seer, you can get a lot of value out of his internal abilities and Aspect and make him a very tanky, hard-hitting DPS monk.
What pushed the hero over the edge changes in The Crimson Guard. Our first thought was that Dark Seer should maximize its effectiveness by building more Strength items, but it turns out that Carry Dark Seer works best when played in a normal Offlane mode for the first few items. And the Crimson might be the best defense right now.
Later you progress to right click to buy more like Heart of the Tarrasque again Black king bar. And, again, because of how the hero works these two are, in fact, some of the best right-click DPS options for late-game scoring.
We’ve only seen two regions get half of their games but there are already a lot of new strategies and tactics that players are using at the highest level of play. Dota is an incredibly healthy place when it comes to the meta and overall joy of the game and there is still so much to explore.
Additionally, we feel like other, more powerful regions will have more ideas that can be used in your daily shenanigans, so stay tuned for more highlights from the Qualifiers meta. Or share your finds that we may have missed in the comments section below.
