UK PPL paid over $131M to players and rights holders in Q2 2024, up 6%

PPL said the Q2 growth was due to a combination of factors including the introduction of a new public service tax in 2023 and continued improvements in the way metadata is shared globally.

Introduced in January 2023, a new social work tax called Specially Featured Entertainment (SFE) prices, negotiated in collaboration with industry bodies through phased implementation. SFE tariff licenses cover the use of music in pubs, bars, and nightclubs. The amount distributed to SFE funds increased 20% compared to last year, PPL said.
